The +pGLO bacteria and -pGLO bacteria are grown on plates which contain a jelly-like substance called LB agar. LB agar is a nutrient agar that the bacteria need to grow on. Some of the agar also contains the antibiotic ampicillin (labelled amp) and some of the agar contains arabinose (labelled ara).
